Kindergarten, First, and Second grade students learn about music through a series called "Gameplan". These lessons are great fun, and we learn so much about music while we're busy playing! Each week, we play games that reinforce musical concepts such as pitch, rhythm, and form. We learn new songs and practice good technique while playing instruments. Most importantly, we stay active throughout our time together.
Third Grade is a time when we develop new musical skills. We will be learning:
- To read and play more advanced rhythms.
- To read and accurately sing five tone songs.
- To harmonize by singing rounds and ostinati.
- To play independent parts on classroom instruments.
Fourth Grade is a busy year in the music room! We will be learning :
- About North Carolina musical styles and artists.
- To itentify instruments of the orchestra and NC folk instruments.
- To read music on the treble clef.
- To play the soprano recorder.
Fifth Grade will be learning:
- How music relates to the history of the United States.
- To sing patriotic songs, folk songs, and world music.
- To play instruments with these songs.
- To compare music from the United States to music from other parts of the world.
- What was happening in the United States when famous composers wrote their best known works.
